This is my all time favourite. It reminds me that no matter who you are and how you act, we are all different and unique. Everyone is insecure. Some people even more than you! And everyone is just trying to be happy. Do not let others or society dictate how you should live your life. Chances are good that people are not even judging you or your behaviour, but in turn taking you for an example and considering how they are going to adapt to this new ‘normal’. If you act like it is no big deal, it will not become a big deal. Studies have shown that people can get away with really odd behaviour as long as they act like it is as normal as ordering a coffee. So if you ever think you are strange, weird or different: you are! And we’re all mad here.
This one may have you thinking twice. And that’s exactly my goal. Where Are you going right now? How are you living your life? What is your lifestyle, what goals and projects do you work on? Does that make you happy? Are you working on your dreams or those of someone else? If the answer is yes, you’re on the right path! If not, you might want to reconsider your direction.
Success is often depicted as a state of being that you can catch within a single picture: a smiling person in suit and tie and a big fat red sports car. The only thing that is really a part of success is that smile. Success is not a threshold to be reached, just like happiness. It’s a state of mind, and it can be accomplished at any moment! It can help to set yourself goals that are not related to your job/study/household. Like: Today I want to learn Something. That way, even if you did not fulfill your entire task list, you can look back at your day in the evening, remember that you saw the flowers were coming up in spring, and tell yourself: yes. I have observed. I learnt something. Success! Do not underestimate the little things, guys.
This one may not ring for everyone, but for me it is a good reminder not to go on and on and on until I drop dead at the end of the line. It tells me to be patient and enjoy the process instead. Even when things are difficult or maybe annoying, there is always something positive I can think of. As I am writing this article, there are some big projects that I have put off for years (choices and priorities, I know. The time just was not right yet, but progress is being made). But I already noticed that the moment I do these activities now, my yield is so much bigger -in terms of enjoyment, results efficiency, experience and more- than it would have been some years ago. I do believe there will be a right time for everything in my life, as well as in yours. Do not wait, things do not happen without you acting upon them. But be patient. Breathe. Live.
I’m sure he is not the first nor the last to say this. But it is so true. I used to stress about things that I could not control (which, I guess, would be nearly everything). Every moment I succeed to let go of that, there is space for good vibes: gratefulness, patience, open-mindedness and especially creativity and motivation. Psychological fact: Emotions greatly deteriorate our ability to think. So you can solve more problems and get much more done without the emotions taking over your otherwise Very capable Self! That does not mean emotions have no place. Just do not let them control your mind completely.
I want to tell you about your heart. Or your soul. Or whatever it is your emotions, passions and all the other abstract things you feel may come from. In contrast to animals, our society effectively trains us Not to listen to our heart, our body and our intuition. But all these ‘things’ know very well how to make or keep you happy. We often just forget to listen to it. If your body tells you it needs to rest, that is a signal to change your priorities. When someone asks your time and effort and you want to help but it really does not make you happy, that is a signal! Deep down you know what makes you happy and maybe this is it. Or not. A popular mindfulness mantra goes like this: “When hungry, eat. When tired, sleep.” Food for thought…
That is listening to your body. But what about the heart? More abstract. Sometimes you do not know why, but ‘something’ gives you an eerie feeling. ‘Something’ will tell you whether it is right for you or not. Psychology tells us that our intuition is way more accurate than we think. So give that ‘something’ a chance, go towards it and give it some attention. It may steer you in a completely different direction. It is not the only one. But in general it is the right one. So follow it, it probably already knows the way.
